MARTYN JOSEPH - SONGWRITING WORKSHOP
Award winning songwriter Martyn Joseph will talk about the ideology behind his songwriting and give some insight into what inspires him. He will explain why he believes passionately that there is a writer inside us all and will help you discover the artist within.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
For 35 years Martyn Joseph has been writing and performing his relevant and vital music across the globe. Take everything you think you know about singer songwriters and rip it up. He has created his own style as a mesmerising live performer and has built a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives. A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness and love for his trade, he’s a jaw dropping guitar player with the ability to articulate a sense of the bigger picture, Martyn’s music, poetry and social commentary manage to empower and speak for many. His songs are photographs, stories and feelings enveloped in melody and delivered by a master craftsman.
With twenty studio albums, thousands of shows under his belt, and a plethora of awards and plaudits Martyn is very much on top of his game. In fact, Martyn was recently commissioned by the BBC to write a song about the amazing work of Andrea Bell, who, with her fellow volunteers, runs a soup kitchen and food bank called Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen. Andrea and her team serve around 100 people in great need every day with good food, clothes and shelter, and Martyn's resultant song was featured on BBC National Television and BBC Radio's 2 and 4 earlier this year, to much acclaim.
After many requests through the years he sporadically puts on Songwriting sessions. Consequently, we're very pleased to announce this very special Songwriting session in Shrewsbury, MA on his North American Tour.
Martyn will talk about his philosophical approach to writing. Why he feels its so important to be able to take notes on our lives and how to bring those thoughts to the pen. An exploration of themes and ideas and how to find the entry point. He will share ideas on how to explore subject matter and how to write in a way that does the subject justice both for the listener and the artist. There will be opportunity to share ideas and hear any thoughts you have brought with you. And if you have nothing..how to find something. Plus much more..a journey into the heart of the matter and a ton of inspiration to send you off to write and create. There will be plenty of time for questions, and interaction too.
The day will be an invaluable inspiration to long time musicians and writers or anyone just beginning a creative/musical journey!
